Love of Words

Sister Margaret Sautner fell in love with the written word from the moment, in grade one, when she realized that all those letters made words and that she could read! Sr. Charlotte Beler encouraged Sr. Margaret to develop her literary gifts and writing proved to be a great healer for her. She filled many journals and eventually became quite prolific in writing poetry. Unfortunately, dementia robbed Sr. Margaret of the capability to continue, but her poetry continues to stand as a testament to her gift with words.

Poverty Questions What’s simplicity of life for me? Does it contain the sense that life is gift? A frantic defense against mortality? What does it mean in the year two thousand and nine, Or co-creating with God, all life to lift? Can I “let go” so another’s will is done? Do I remember I belong to community? What happens when I find control is gone, And all that’s left, is my soul’s poverty? As evidence mounts that I have now grown old? What’s the legacy of life that’s mine? What’s the Gospel that’s still left untold? God, I place myself into your hands! Please let me faithfully follow your commands! What’s the Gospel that’s still left untold? God, I place myself into your hands! Please let me faithfully follow your commands!

Live A New Life “I still have many things to say to you, But you cannot bear hearing them right now. Each day, My Truth will teach you what to do! You’ll be amazed at things I will allow! So for today, I say: Live a new life! Remove all fear and let your spirit soar! Though you will weep and mourn because of strife, In time, that pain will turn to joy once more! I will not leave you orphaned! I’ll be back! Sometimes it’s good to wait a little while, So let me prove to you that you’ll not lack! My Love and Faithfulness will come My Style! Just watch and listen to all I do and say! I’m speaking to you loudly, every day!” Cf John 16:12-20

Prayer For Peace A new beginning is coming into view! I no longer need the old! Its time is past! It isn’t yet clear! I’m not sure of what I will do, But Your possibilities are eternal and vast! I need to be bigger than scorn and ridicule! Right now, I must wait for You to take the lead! I know for sure that there’s a hidden jewel, And that it has nothing to do with my heart’s greed! Open my heart, O God, that I may receive, And wear that precious jewel – at least today! Remove the thoughts and feelings that deceive And rob me of the gift to walk your way! God of Love, it’s really hard to wait! So to Your Love, my soul I dedicate!
