The Ursulines of Prelate hosted a Celebration of Thanksgiving for 90 years of blessings on November 4, 2009. This is the year of the 90th Anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone marking the foundation of the Ursuline Congregation on November 19, 1919. Thirty-two Sisters and supporting staff gathered for a noon lunch. Various items on the menu were named in memory of the deceased Sisters who were assigned as main cooks during the many years of operation when the Academy existed. Many people from Prelate and the surrounding district joined the Sisters at 2:00pm in the chapel. The prayer service began with a ritual, blessing the cornerstone, (symbolically represented) and laying footprints to mark the Sisters’ lasting presence. Each Sister placed a lighted candle at the cornerstone recognizing that each carries a spark of St. Angela's charism and the original founding spirit of the congregation. Sister Anne Lewans, General Superior, then handed a lighted vigil light to the youngest member of the Congregation, Sister Felicitas Drobig, to place this light at the cornerstone, a symbol of their loyalty to carry on the spirit and mission of "Educating for Life".
A prayer service followed in thanksgiving to our founders and those who have gone before us culminating in the great hymn of praise: Holy God, We Praise Your Name"! Edwin Meuchel, a long time support staff at St. Angela's Convent/Academy carried a painting of the Old Convent to the auditorium to be displayed in commemoration of this event. The gathering of Sisters, Associates, and laity enjoyed a delicious lunch and short program. Congratulatory messages came from the chairperson of the Parish Council, the Mayor of Prelate, the Associates of Prelate and district, and from the Knights of Columbus. Sister Rosetta Reiniger showed a DVD of a film taken in the late 1920's of a Corpus Christi procession at the Prelate Church. Both founders, Father Joseph Riedinger and Mother Clementia Graffelder were present at this event through this medium
